It's almost time!
Instructions for the first morning of the tour:
We will be meeting in front of the Fleming Building - street side. We ask that you arrive at 6:30 am, in front of the Thompson street parking structure. We will have some coffee and donuts for everyone. You will see the bus (can't miss it!). The bus will leave promptly at 7:15.
If you need to park in the structure that week, let Linda know and she will make the arrangements.
An email will be going out soon with more detail.
The 2007 Michigan Road Scholar Tour is being planned.
February. 2007. The Road Scholar Orientation will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007. The meeting will begin promtply at 6:00 pm in the Kuenzel Room of the Michigan Union.
January, 2007. The Faculty Advisory committee has completed the difficult task of choosing 30 participants for the 2007 tour. You will receive a letter soon announcing your status as selected, not selected, or wait-listed. If you were not chosen this year, please feel free to apply again next fall.
Dean Frank Ascione(MRS '99) will chair the Faculty Advisory Committee.
The selection committee has been chosen and will meeting soon to review the applications.
December 1, 2006. The application period has ended. Thank you to everyone who expressed an interest in the tour by filling out an application. The selection committee will now have the difficult job of choosing only 30 to go on the tour. You will be notified as soon as this process is complete.
November 6, 2006. We are pleased to announce that applications for the 2007 Michigan Road Scholars Tour are now being accepted.
All meals, accommodations (private rooms for each participant), and transportation will be provided. The mode of transportation will be a tour bus equipped with a restroom, video monitors, snacks and a small library of materials regarding the State of Michigan. Stops on the tour will include special presentations by and interaction with a variety of community representatives.
Participants will each receive a notebook with pertinent background on state issues, locations to be visited and community people with whom they will meet. Some of the participating faculty may be asked to give informal presentations related to their field of expertise.

October, 2006. We will be taking applications from Monday, November 6, through Friday, December 1, 2006, for the 2007 tour.

Tour of 2006:
5/8/2006 - After five busy days touring the state, the 2006 Michigan Road Scholars tour bus pulled up to the Fleming Building and let off a new group of friends. The tour may be over, but the experiences of the trip will be remembered for a long time.

5/1/2006 - On the Road again! The 2006 Michigan Road Scholars tour has begun. The excited group left Ann Arbor promptly at 7:15 this morning after check-in, coffee and donuts. Click on the BLOG link (upper right) to hear the pre-tour message from David Lossing, and feel free to leave your comments for the group.
The Tour Itinerary
04/06: Polo shirts and name tags are being ordered. The Field Guide Directory is being compiled and will be shipped off to printing soon. Final touches are being put on the itinerary.
Invitations to evening receptions will go out next week.
David will be driving the route soon and making last-minute adjustments to schedule.

2006 Road Scholars:
Please block on your calendar the week of May 1-5, 2006 for the tour. We will depart early on Monday, May 1st and arrive back in Ann Arbor late Friday afternoon on May 5th. A formal tour agenda will be prepared and given to you prior to our departure. If you are not able to participate the full five days, please let me know ASAP.
Second, we've scheduled two events prior to our departure. They are:
1. MRS 2006 Orientation: Tuesday, March 7, 2006 from 6-8pm. The orientation will be held on the campus of UM-Ann Arbor in the Wolverine Room of the Michigan Union.
2. Dinner with UM Interim Provost Edward Gramlich: Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 6:30pm. The dinner will be held on the UM-Ann Arbor campus in the Koessler Room of the Michigan League. A formal invitation will be sent from the Provost's office in the coming weeks.
